Volker Haug to participate in Rigg Design Prize

(Australia) - In collaboration with Danielle Brustman and Matt Staples, Volker Haug set to participate in prestigious Rigg Design Prize.

Highly commended by international judge Shashi Cann, Brustman’s installation for the prize, which includes Volker Haug’s Oddments pendant as its central feature, can be seen up until the 24 February 2019 at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne, Australia.

With this year’s focus on interiors, the NGV asked ten nationally renowned designers to broaden their approach in the creation of domestic spaces.

The intention behind Brustman's design is to leave space for an occupant’s dreaming and imagination whilst providing a rich spatial framework that facilitates inspiration where a “world within a world” emerges. Part conversation pit, part stage, this curvilinear structure takes its cues from art deco bandshells where rooms become sets and people become performers in their own lives.

“I love the dreamy way the Oddments pendant appears to be floating," writes Brustman. "It has an elemental quality to it which also works with the futuristic design reference for this project. I was initially attracted to this design for its lightness, beauty and simplicity. When I saw the Oddments pendant I knew it would marry with the overall design of the space perfectly."

Louis Poulsen launches Silver Patera

(Denmark) - Danish lighting manufacturer launches silver version of Øivind Slaatto’s Patera chandelier.

While classic in its form and Danish design principles, the silver Patera takes a bold step away from minimalism. Its reflective profile instantly catches the eye whether or not the lamp is lit, becoming an irresistible focal point and an essential part of the room's ambiance.

The design’s soft, glare-free, 360-degree illumination is the result of an intricate design. Patera consists of a variety of differently positioned cells that bathe surrounding spaces in natural light while preventing stark and undesirable shadows.

The pendant is easy to install in many settings. It comes with an E27/E26 fitting, allowing the use of a variety of light sources, including LED. Patera is also available with an integrated LED solution.

The new silver Patera will be available starting in February 2019.

Het Licht Lab - No.42 TUIG

Floor Lamp No. 42 TUIG, designed by Alex Groot Jebbink, combines a sleek steel frame with an architectural hood of rugged leather. A lamp with its own personality, TUIG is the result of research into new forms of connection and the art of omission. The closed hood forces the light to bundle and is thus mainly released up and down.

Catellani & Smith introduces Gold Moon

(Italy) – Gold Moon chandelier is the new creation from Catellani & Smith, in which gold colour communicates a message of warmth and refinement in a space.

Similar to a cascade of falling lights, this spectacular lighting composition is an eye-catching element in the context of contract-projects, hotels and private residences.

The fixture is composed of a set of irregular discs, suspended from a satin-steel base by thin cables of different lengths. The discs have a diameter of 20cm and are covered by thin gold-coloured leaves. They ‘host’ precious copper curls and small gems of glass, provided with LED light sources. The interchangeable LEDs are IGBT/Triac dimmable and therefore the intensity of light can be adjusted, to get the most suitable lighting.

Custom versions of the Gold Moon Chandelier are also available, to meet diverse requirements: the ceiling base is available in various diameters, according to the number of pendants, which may vary starting from a minimum of 20 elements.

Moooi presents The Button

(Netherlands) - In an effort to battle counterfeit products, Moooi introduces 'button' of authentication.

Moooi believes in good design and the sustainability of the creative processes that lead to good design. Design brands and designers deserve protection to keep creating new products and investing in marketing their designs.

The Button is a personal safe-keeper of investing in authentic design. A hi-tech superhero with NFC-technology that will accompany every Moooi design and acts as proof of authenticity.

Mass production and counterfeiting is becoming more and more common. The process of designing, producing and marketing of a new authentic design takes time. During that time, it's easy for counterfeiters to copy and reproduce the design and flood the market with cheap imitations. Fighting these malpractices often feels futile due to large counterfeit manufacturers and distributors keeping a low profile or countries where counterfeiters aren't prosecuted.

Moooi realised that instead of fighting off copies, the smarter choice would be to shift the focus on emphasising their own designs. Protecting Moooi designs with clever technology, while providing proud Moooi product owners digital proof of their investment. And just like that, The Button was born.
