betec Licht - Cubus Duo
Designed by Gottfried Riesner, this stylish LED aluminium chandelier is great for offices, halls, churches, art galleries and homes. It has duo light strips with 3000 or 2400K light colour in each H-profile, meaning the core brightness is distributed without glare when used in large spaces. With 88W of power, it is infinitely dimmable and the acrylic-covered light bands make this light maintenance-free for up to 50,000 hours.
Yellow Goat Design - Skinny
Normally, it might be easy to ignore meaningless squiggles in the sky but these demand your attention. Squeezing itself into the tightest of spaces with maximum effect, the plywood and neon design of Skinny is lithe in form and function. Three squiggles on the ceiling have morphed to become very cool lighting.
Applelec - OLED Classic
Naturally soft and diffuse, OLED Classic is a re-imagining of the traditional incandescent lamp. Directional light comes in the form of a disc of OLED, delicately suspended within an exposed wire cage. The OLED Classic pendant provides all the human-centric benefits of OLED light, including no uncomfortable glare or heat, and is free from UV and IR emissions. A new range of OLED luminaires is due to launch soon from Applelec.
Karice / Lake + Wells - Portal
Precariously balancing two surfaces, wall and floor, Portal is neither sconce nor floor lamp, and yet it is also curiously both. The elongated form and reflective, polished brass core nod to the mirror as a literary object of magic, a portal to other worlds.
Each floor lamp is machined from a single block of solid aluminium, refined by artisans, anodised, and then assembled with a hand-polished brass mirror. Portal is a collaboration between Lake + Wells and Karice.
Arrangements heads to Asia and Australia
(Italy) - Following successful European and US launches, Flos takes modular chandeliers further afield.
The promotional tour will covers important towns and features site-specific lighting installations and design lectures with Anastassiades.
Starting at the new Flos Shanghai showroom, to Hong Kong, in collaboration with Colourliving, then on to Melbourne and Sydney, in partnership with Euroluce Australia, the tour continues in Tokyo at the Flos Japan space.
Midway between a light sculpture and an industrial design object, Arrangements is conceived as pure geometric lights that can be combined in multiple compositions.
Conran Shop launches first in-house lamp collection
(UK) - The Conran Shop releases fifteen exclusive lamps designed and made by well-lit.
The design uses new advances in LED technology to create fluid forms that emit bright, warm light for up to ten years using minimal energy.
‘Conran by well-lit’ includes flexible and non-flexible LED filaments, giving customers the choice of a warm and relaxing 2200K or a brighter 2600K for more functional use.
Chris Stimson, Co-Founder of well-lit, said: “well-lit began five years ago in my parents’ garage. We were just two guys in Yorkshire with a crazy plan to manufacture LED light sources by hand and to the highest ethical standards.
“We never dreamed our lamps would be used by royalty and global hospitality brands and now they’ve made it onto the shelves of the one of the most iconic retailers in the world.
‘Working with Conran is an amazing new venture for well-lit, but it won't change the way we do things. We will always focus on the things that matter to us, products and people, because that’s what really sets us apart.”

Mizzi Studio unveils ‘The Firekraken’
(UK) - Mizzi Studio creates huge three-dimensional tapestry on the theme of ‘celebration’.
Mizzi Studio’s design was revealed alongside designs by B3 Designers, Biasol, Finch Interiors and Keane Brands. The immersive installation simulates both dancing fireworks and bioluminescent organisms that glow in the ocean.
‘The Firekraken’ installation comprises a series of five sculptures, made by manipulating clear acrylic tubes and arranging them in unique assemblages, before passing addressable LED light strips through them. The hundreds of LED lights were programmed to react to sound and choreographed to a carefully selected soundtrack, Living on My Own by Freddie Mercury.
“Fireworks can be breathtaking,” said Ashwini Ashokkumar, a designer at Mizzi Studio. “Nature’s own fireworks, from fireflies to jellyfish, are utterly entrancing. We wanted to fuse the two into an installation that is at once abstract and full of life.”
Republic of Fritz Hansen releases new collection
(Denmark) - 2018 marks expansion for the brand with several new lighting products.
The first in the collection, the Dogu lamp, was designed by Danish artist and ceramicist Michael Geertsen and is named after traditional Japanese ceramic figures shaped like animals. It has a moulded lamp shade made of bone china and an aluminium suspension with small gaps that cast the light upwards.
The Cross-Plex lamp, second in the collection, was designed by the Danish architect, designer and professor Bodil Kjaer in 1961. It has been reintroduced to continue Fritz Hansen’s proud Nordic traditions. This lamp was conceived after Kjaer burnt some newspapers on lit candles at her home. The solution was to design a lamp that could substitute the use of candles whilst bringing the same kind of ‘Hygge’ to the room.
The final lighting design is the Orient pendant. It was created with Danish design and Eastern shapes in brushed aluminium. It pays tribute to the original collection which included a black, copper and silver coloured version.
Relaunched by Lightyears in 2013, and originally designed by Jo Hammerborg in 1963, the Orient is named after its oriental shape. A suspension in Scandinavian oak combined with a grey-blue textile cord underlines the Nordic appearance.
